    Cardinals Redsrbetter Award: Chris Carpenter

Chris carpenter has posted a 2.33 ERA with 15 wins on the season. This guy has really stepped it up the last few years.Maybe him having such a great lineup to help him out gets him this award, but that still doesn't give him that great ERA. Nicely Done!

Carpenter's a winner on any team at this point in his career. Cards offense doesn't change that.

Came into the year as the #3 guy on that staff expected to do stuff and has lead the team. Great job by him.

He has been carrying the team's pitching pretty much. He stepped it up when Mulder is struggling being the ace.

Carp should have been the ace going in (and really, he was, too bad he was injured for the playoffs).

Still no Roger Clemens, but being the 2nd or 3rd (Oswalt or Carp) best pitcher in baseball this year isn't bad at all. Halladay would have been higher than both if he...you know...pitched in the last month.

The Cardinals don't have such a great line-up right now. Most of their heavy hitters have been replaced by utility guys and career minor leaguers. A couple of runs is usually enough with Carpenter on the mound though.

Actually, Carpenter is having a slightly better year IMO.
Let's take out the win-loss record because it would be unfair for Clemens with his poor run support and stuff. The only things Clemens is better are ERA: 1.45 vs. 2.26, WHIP, 0.95 vs. 0.99, and BAA: .188 vs. .213. Those are good stats to measure a pitcher, but Carpenter is leading Clemens in innings pitched, strike outs, and walks, he also has 5 CGs with 4 shut outs while Clemens has none in both.
It's going to be a tight Cy Young race.

What is a pitcher's job? To not allow runs. What has Clemens done significantly better than Carpenter? Not allowed runs.

His IP lead is not significant enough to counteract about a run every 10-11 innings in difference. Strikeouts are a good barometer for future success as they keep the ball out of the field (or it is a pitcher-dependant stat) as are walks. CGs and SHO are measured in IP and RA respectively, as is BAA in WHIP.

I'd take Clemens season over any pitcher in baseball bar none.

Well Roger stole Randy Johnson's Cy Young last year because Rocket had more wins. It Roger's turn to get ****ed over.
