Cardinals Huge Blow to Cards!!! (Wainwright injured)

Spring training 2011: St. Louis Cardinals' Adam Wainwright injures throwing elbow - ESPN

This is a devastating blow to the Cards chances of winning the Central. Wainwright was arguably the Cards best pitcher and without him the rotation isn't that impressive. They have no one near MLB ready in the farm system and now have to rely on Ian Snell or Miguel Batista. This could also be Kevin Millwood's chance to get a MLB deal. Not only does the practically kill the Cards chances of winning the Central but it hurts the chances of keeping Pujols. Cards were banking on being a winning ballclub and showing Pujols that he is already in a winning situation. This is just a crushing blow to Cards fans everywhere.

How much you want to bet they sign Millwood and he has a good season?

When I first read the title, I thought it was about Nick Punto's "sports hernia" surgery, but this is a bit more of a blow. Losing Wainwright for the season would be a huge problem for the Cardinals, although (as was mentioned before) Dave Duncan could make someone into a Cy Young candidate.

Looks like his 2012 and 2013 won't get picked up giving the Cards a little extra money to work with.

Forget Pujols, Blue Jays Should Focus On Rasmus | Blog Archive | Getting Blanked | Blogs | TheScore.com

Interesting perspective from a Toronto writer. Pillage Rasmus for some of the Jays young arms. Could be beneficial for us depending on who we end up shipping out.

Rasmus isn't going anywhere and don't really get why this Toronot writer would think so. They just lost Wainwright and could be on the verge of losing Pujols. The Cards need Rasmus now more than ever. He costs next to nothing and will be needed in case the Cards do retain Pujols. Getting rid of talent will only push Pujols away.

Trading Rasmus for Wainwright's replacement is hardly getting rid of talent.

I was salivating at the rumors of Rasmus being on the block last season. I'd love to get him out of the division.

The more likely scenario is now that the Cardinals are essentially a 3rd place type of team and if anyone is dealt, it will Carpenter around the deadline.

I don't see the Cards being out of any race around the deadline. Plus if Carpenter pitches like he can, he will be under a very team friendly option for 2012
