GM John Mozeliak says he has a gut feeling Troy Glaus has "less than a 50-50 chance" of returning from his shoulder surgery this season.
The Cardinals are in need of a bat, so they could scour the market for third basemen. Mark DeRosa and Garrett Atkins are the obvious names that jump to mind. Glaus is a free agent after the year.
Imagine just how well the Cards and mainly Pujols could be doing if they had Glaus in that lineup hitting cleanup. Scary thought. Sucks that he is most likely to miss the season as he will probably be limited to DH for the rest of his career but come make it back since he is only 32. Maybe he could be moved to first. Barden and Freese are too inconsistent and inexperienced to rely on so the Cards do need to make a move. DeRosa is a possibility as is Beltre who would come very cheap due to his poor performance this year. Same goes for Atkins but Beltre is far superior defensively. I even think Tejada could be had if they wanted. Cards need to do something unlike in the past couple of years where they have stood pat. The All Star game is in St. Louis so income will be brought in.
