Ankiel just ran face first into the center field wall. Possible neck injury. Didn't look good. Hope he's okay, but this likely means more playing time for Rasmus. At least the Cards have an outfield that's 4-man deep.

I just saw the highlights of this and like you said it does not look good. Hope for the best for him. He has been through a lot in his career.
I hope not.
Ankiel will be held over night for precautionary reasons but everything seems to be alright. He might be out for a week because I am sure he will have a stiff neck for a while. I once ran full speed into a metal chain link fence and broke the top bar with my neck in high school. I stayed in the game and broke up the shutout. I didn't jam my neck like he did though but it still hurt like a mother ****er. I just have a high tolerance for pain.
He is listed as Day to Day for now.
2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)
TBL: Anaheim Angels 2006-present (238-244 regular season, 1 division title)

TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)
Good news, Ankiel was released from the hospital today.
Ankiel released from hospital | MLB.com: NewsCardinals outfielder Rick Ankiel was released early Tuesday from the hospital where he spent the night under observation following a harrowing collision with Busch Stadium's wall.
Ankiel, carted off the field and stabilized on a gurney after stumbling head-first into the wall following a lunging catch of Pedro Feliz's eighth-inning drive, had been taken to the hospital for tests.
X-rays and a CT scan of Ankiel's head, neck and back were all negative and showed no fractures.
"Right now things are positive," Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch shortly before Ankiel's release.
The club is expected to provide another update on Ankiel's status prior to Tuesday night's home game against the Phillies, including a possible timetable for the outfielder's return.
Ankiel is expected to be back at the stadium for tonight's game.
Good news for the Cards, and my fantasy team as he was starting to regain some of the form he had.
I'm sure Rick isn't too happy with this move but Rasmus sure will be.According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals will place Rick Ankiel on the disabled list and call up outfielder Shane Robinson.
Ankiel suffered a bruised shoulder and a condition similar to whiplash after running full speed into a wall earlier this week. It seems like a wise move by the Cardinals to give him a few weeks of rest. Robinson, 24, is hitting .345/.403/.473 at Triple-A Memphis this season. He'll see some playing time in manager Tony La Russa's ever-changing lineup, but Colby Rasmus is going to be the biggest beneficiary.
The under on 19.5 HR is looking good.
It sure does, Nostradamus.
It was a nasty injury. Thankfully it's not TOO bad an injury.
