I found these bits from Bernie about the Cards and second base. It isn't very surprising though. Schumaker will be given every chance to succeed at second base, because he is a good hitter. Thurston has been playing well, and he could make the team. Now that Oquendo is back from the WBC, he will have more time to help Skip with his fielding.

* Schumaker has improved enough to where he will be 2B early in season. Has had a few decent days in a row. If he's functional at 2B, they will work around the defense 'cause they want his offense. May have to pull the plug on it eventually -- but not before they go into regular season.

* Thurston good spot to make the team... B. Ryan probably OK... last UT spot Brian Barden or Tyler Greene.
