    Stop!! It's Too Late!!!

Even though a deal is not yet done, free agent Kyle Lohse reportedly will take a physical for the Cardinals on Friday.
Lohse is only requesting a one-year deal at this point, probably for $5 million or so. It's unclear whether he'd be an option for the rotation during the first couple of weeks of the season, but we're guessing he wouldn't be. The Cards still might need Anthony Reyes, Todd Wellemeyer and Brad Thompson as starters initially.
Don't do this St. Louis!! It's too late for this shit! You had all offseason to try and assemble a better pitching staff and you failed miserably. The best you could come up with was Ron Villone and Matt Clement. Now you want to take on the overpriced Kyle Lohse who will do no better than Thompson or Wellemeyer? Bad idea and a waste of $5 million. The Cards are better off with what they have now and need to stick with it.

Cardinals signed RHP Kyle Lohse to a one-year contract.

Terms haven't been made official yet, but Lohse is expected to receive $4.25 million plus incentives. Lohse threw a 75-pitch mound session Wednesday, underwent a physical Friday prior to signing the contract and is expected to be ready for Opening Day.
It's official, the Cards just got worse and had to pay for it!!

Lohse has pretty good stuff when he stays agressive on the mound. If he gets a big lead, he can lose concentration. He tried to throw too many different pitches, once having 6 different pitches (3 fastballs, a curve, slider and change-up). He was told to concentrate on his 2-seam fastball, change-up and curve and had some success with those pitches.
I didn't read a whole lot about his pitch selection last season, though so I cannot comment on what he throws now.

It's a one year deal and they don't have much to begin with, it's not bad. If he sucks, he sucks, it didn't cost them in the long run.

    Lohse could become #2 starter

The Cardinals expect Joel Pineiro to open the regular season on the disabled list, and they are stealing Braden Looper an extra day to work between spring starts. Yet, the club is beginning to bring some order to its buffeted starting rotation.

Newly signed righthander Kyle Lohse will throw a simulated game Monday, and if that goes well he will make his Cardinals debut with a start Saturday against Minnesota, pitching coach Dave Duncan said.

The Cardinals will use Tuesday's off day as a rest day for all of the starters, save Lohse. The schedule after that confirms that Adam Wainwright will be the opening day starter, and reveals that Lohse will be on turn to start the second game.

Duncan agreed that those three pitchers are the certainties for the rotation, with Todd Wellemeyer, Brad Thompson and Anthony Reyes still jockeying for position.
