Feb 28 Izturis probably has the inside track to getting the leadoff job this season, but only because he has more experience in the role than any of the other candidates, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Recommendation: Izturis' bat should probably be at the bottom of the lineup, not the top, but the other candidates - Adam Kennedy, Aaron Miles, Brendan Ryan and Skip Schumaker - aren't exactly Rickey Henderson.

They are really going to miss Eckstein. Scrappy, low strikeout hitter, and takes a lot of pitches.

They will miss Eckstein but I highly doubt Izturis is the leadoff man come Opening Day. Izturis is currently hitting .100 this spring and not even LaRussa is dumb enough to ignore that horrible BA. Ludwick, Miles or Shumaker would be better choices.

In LaRussa's mind...he is the second lead off hitter... or the first leadoff hitter after the 1st Inning. lol Whichever way it is. lol

As for the real leadoff hitter... I think Skip will do well there. He goes out there and plays like he really wants it. I think he will surprise a lot of people.
