And not that it matters too much since your #2 and #3 matchups negate one another, but shouldn't you have pitted Cain vs. Haren and Johnson vs. Davis based on their roughly equalizing VORP?

My take on this is in a three game series featuring their top 3 pitted against each other in respective order, each game can go either way. The last 2 starters are really the x-factors.
I can't see how Garland is any better than Barry Zito. Just can't see it and Scherzer is never healthy enough to put together any kind of streak of success so I would say Sanchez has the advantage even with his high career ERA. You seem to be forgetting Garland is moving to a hitter friendly home ballpark which spells disaster. There also seems to be no mention of Webb's shoulder woes.
Seems to me like you went off ESPN and Baseball Prospectus's projections."So there you go, that's how I can see that the D'Backs have a better rotation than the Giants. Sorry if I don't go along with the media hype, sorry if I rely on more than my eyes (that's for you, Steve Phillips) to evaluate players, and sorry if this isn't what you want to see."
Seems to me I made my opinions, and then found stats that back them up. And yes, I do put a lot into Baseball Prospectus. But I put more into statistics from the last couple of years, and that's the basis for all of my comparisons. It just so happens that BP's projections backed them up pretty well. If you read through all the analysis, I believe you would see that those projections played a secondary role to actual statistical based analysis.
And I also said that the point is moot if Webb can't make close to 30 starts. Obviously it's not looking good right now, but I'm not bailing yet either. Moving everyone up a spot makes the rotation weaker, but it still doesn't become a huge advantage considering the advantage Arizona had in the #4 and #5 spots. Probably becomes an advantage to the Giants about equal to that the D'Backs would hold with Webb.
Still don't see this advantage in the #4 or #5 spots. Garland is awful and moving to a hitter's park while Zito's velocity has actually improved gving him a better chance to spot that pitch and get hitters to quit sitting back on that curveball. Scherzer missed time last year with shoulder problems and is on the DL to start the year for the same ailment.
I was 100% wrong about the Giants offense! It is even worse than last year's. I apologize Kurkjian
I may as well (finally) admit to being wrong about Bochy.
I've always carried the belief that he could win if given the right tools.
I thought he had the right tools this year (to at least compete for the division) and he just keeps ****ing it up.

Bochy could have Pujols, Longoria, Utley, Bay, Beltran, Ichiro, Mauer and Reyes and **** it up.
All managers pretty much suck. Yes, even that former Angels pitching guru down in San Diego is not perfect.
I'm not too pleased with his efforts and decisions myself.
