Dwight Gooden made a similar leap to Felix, only more impressive, going from only pitching in A ball to playing a full season with the Mets. He then proceeded to dominate, and because of his pure stuff is the most natural comparison that one can give to Felix. So lets compare their first year stats:
ERA:
WHIP:Gooden, 2.60 vs. Felix, 1.59
K's/9:Gooden, 1.07 vs. Felix, 0.80
K/BB:Gooden, 11.39 vs. Felix, 8.82
Those were the most fair stats considering the difference in IP (Gooden's 218 to Felix's 51). Gooden then turned around and put up maybe the greatest pitching performance in the past 25 years, going 24-4 with a 1.53 ERA and 268 K's. It is unfair to ask Felix to put up those numbers, but a 2.00 ERA with 250 K's out of 20 year old would just be mind-boggling. Let's just be thankful we got Freddy Garcia out of here so Felix didn't turn out like the Doc.Gooden, 3.78 vs. Felix, 5.00
