Toronto Blue Jays vs Seattle Mariners
Safeco Field
May 30th-June 1st
Recently-
The Jays are in a three way battle for 2nd in the very strong AL East. Roy Halladay was brilliant yesterday for he only gave up a infield single and a bunt in his CG SHO of the Twins. That was there only win of the 3 game set with the Twins though. They did take 2 from the Bo Sox before that. The M's took 2 of 3 from the D-Rays over the weekend and showed some signs of life but they are still nine games under .500 at the moment.
Probable Starters
Today- Ted Lilly (3-4, 7.59) vs Jamie Moyer (4-2, 5.70)
Can you imagine the score of this game? Neither pitcher has had success lately. Lilly is 2-5 in his career vs the M's, sporting an ERA of 5.85 and has allowed 57 hits in 47 career IP. This could have been the perfect game to use Miguel Olivo who is 4 for 5, with 3 HRs and 7 RBIs vs Lilly. Instead, the guy to watch is Brett Boone who is 11 for 28 vs Lilly. Jamie Moyer isn't exactly much better vs the Jays for he is 11-7 with a 5.01 ERA in his long career. Shea Hillenbrand has Moyer's number for hes is 5 for 10 with a 3 HRs and 8 RBIs. You could expect a lot of runs in this affair.
Tuesday- Gustavo Chacin (5-3, 3.32) vs Ryan Franklin (2-6, 4.45)
This is potentially the best pitching matchup of the 3 game set. Chacin hasnt won since April 27th. Hes never faced Seattle. Ryan Franklin is coming off a good quailty start vs the O's. only to lose that game, he hasnt won since May 8th. Toronto owns Franklin. Ryan is 2-0 but his ERA is 10.08 and he allows more than a 2 WHIP, they hit .381 vs Franklin. Ouch.
Wednesday- Josh Towers (5-3, 4.14) vs Gil Meche (4-3, 5.09)
Josh Towers has hit a slump of sorts, allowing 5 runs or more in each of his last 2 starts. Hes had some what good success vs the M's. Hes 2-1 with a 4.44 ERA and just 1 walk in 26 IP. Gil Meche also struggles vs the Jays with an ERA over 6. This also could be a good duel but Meche's command has to be ON.
By The Numbers
5 - # of total walks by Josh Towers this season.
42- Age of new M's starting catcher Pat Borders
87- # of doubles hit by the Jays.
124- # of free passes issued by the Jays
