"If Barry Bonds is proven to have used steroids," Babe Ruth's granddaughter said Saturday from her Durham home, "his record should not stand. It would be false. It would be man-made. Not just Bonds, Mark McGwire or whoever else is found guilty of using them. Those records should be wiped out.

"Steroids are the plague of sports. They're literally killing kids. Some athletes say they don't want to be role models, but they really don't have a choice. Kids see that they use steroids, break records and they want to be just like them."

Ruth WAS the only homerun hitter in the league for many years. He was I am going to guess 80 pounds heaver than everyone. Ball players back then were not making alot of money either. Ruth gave ALOT to the kids. Watch the latest Ruth movie you will learn alot of the Babe.

You're over looking something by doing this whole "you can't prove it" hook (which is getting old). Whether or not steroids help you hit homeruns is a lesser issue than the fact the steroids are ILLEGAL! So if you take them, and they don't help you hit homeruns, you're still breaking the law.

If the conversation has gone so far as to say, "Steroids don't help you hit homeruns," then you've implicitly admitted that the player in question has taken them, didn't gain an advantage, and should not be punished. The player is still guilty of using an illegal substance whether or not he gained an advantage from it.
