Sergio Romo, on the disabled list with a sprained right elbow, tossed 2 1/3 innings in an extended spring training game Monday.
"The plan was for him to throw 1 1/3, but he'd only thrown 10 pitches, so we let him go another inning," said manager Bruce Bochy. Romo is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with either Single-A San Jose or Triple-A Fresno.
Joe Martinez (head) has been cleared to resume physical activities.
Martinez was nailed in the skull with a Mike Cameron line drive on April 10 and suffered a few career-threatening hairline fractures. He'll take his time in rehabbing from the injuries and isn't likely to contribute this season.
Andres Torres ran the bases Monday as he rehabs from a pulled hamstring.
It was a big step for Torres, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list in late April. He's set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday and could return to the Giants about one week later.
