The Giants are coming off a fantastic sweep of the division leading Dbacks and Molina and Rowand are red hot. Now the Giants return home and face the worst team in baseball, the Padres. The Giants are 4-1 against the Padres so far this season so they should easily take 2 of 3 in this series.
Game One- Greg Maddux (3-4, 3.76 ERA) vs Matt Cain (2-3, 4.43 ERA). Will the Giants blow another win for Cain? Will the Giants ever beat Maddux again? Cain went six innings and gave up just two runs in a no decision in his last start. The bullpen blew the game for him so hopefully he can have one of his one hit shutouts so he can assure himself the victory. Cain is 0-1 with a 3.97 ERA in two starts against the Padres this season. Maddux is of course 1-0 with a .64 ERA in his two starts this season and 29-14 with a 2.80 ERA lifetime against the Giants. Hopefully the veterans will fill out the lineup since Maddux has made our young guys look silly.
Game Two- Josh Banks (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs Pat Misch (0-1, 6.54 ERA). Misch has looked awful and Banks has looked anything but. I personally thought Misch would have been sent down but that would be smart and the Giants rarely do that. Misch is still looking for his first career win after appearing in 25 games.
Game Three- Randy Wolf (3-4, 4.59 ERA) vs Tim Lincecum (7-1, 2.33 ERA). The Padres were hoping they didn't have to face Lincecum but they will. Lincecum has been one of the best pitchers in the league and had a great outing his last time out. He went seven and a third and gave up three runs but really his bullpen let him down allowing two of his runners to score. Lincecum is 1-0 with a .73 ERA in two starts against the Padres this year. Wolf is 0-0 with an ERA of 3 this season against the Gigantes.
The Giants should win the series and possibly sweep. I would like to see the veterans face Maddux which means no Bowker who just swings at the first pitch every time. Let's just hope Misch can keep the ball down as the Padres have been hitting the ball out the park pretty well recently.
