MILWAUKEE -- The Giants assured themselves of a losing road trip Saturday by falling to the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-4, for their fourth defeat in five games.
Giants starter Kevin Correia pitched capably, considering he had been weakened for several days with a stomach virus. The right-hander lasted six innings, allowing four runs and six hits.
The Giants fell behind in the second inning as they allowed a runner to score from second base on an infield single for the second time this week. This time, on Mike Rivera's weak bouncer to the left side, third baseman Jose Castillo rushed in for the ball and made a wide, off-balance throw to first. Corey Hart, running all the way with two outs, beat Daniel Ortmeier's throw home.
Milwaukee added a pair of runs in the fifth on doubles by Hart and Rivera and Gabe Gross' two-out RBI single.
No-hit for five innings by Milwaukee left-hander Manny Parra, the Giants roused themselves to score twice in the sixth on Eugenio Velez's triple, Randy Winn's double and Ray Durham's single. Ryan Braun's sixth-inning homer extended Milwaukee's lead to 4-2, but the Giants scored again in the seventh as Daniel Ortmeier grounded an infield hit and came around on a wild pitch, Brian Bocock's single and pinch-hitter Dave Roberts' fielder's-choice grounder.
Gabe Kapler's pinch-hit homer off Jack Taschner in the seventh restored Milwaukee's two-run edge. Durham homered off Guillermo Mota for the Giants' final run in the eighth.
One of the Giants better efforts, but it still was not enough.
Holy shit is right! The Giants hit homeruns in back to back games!! Giants lose a tough one today 5-4. Valdez looked sharp and Correia did a solid job. Giants continue to get nothing from the leadoff spot.
On yesterday's game, Hennessey and Sanchez blew assholes. Hennessey isn't a very good reliever and the sooner the Giants figure that out, the better off we will be. It took the Giants years to figure out that Feliz sucked so hopefully we won't have to wait as long. 1-4 is not how I wanted to start the year.
SF Kid and Bear leave at the same time and come back at the same time. Are you two twin brothers or something?
Glad to have you both back!
Giants are down 6-0, Zito pitched 5ip, allowed 3 er, he threw 106 pitches.
Giants lose 7-0. Hennessey once again gave up a run as Zito gave up five (3 were earned). Giants again getting nothing from the leadoff spot with Roberts going 0-4. This has been the biggest problem I've seen this far, the leadoff spot. Rowand and Winn were not in the lineup either. Rowand has bruised ribs. Velez playing RF didn't make me too happy. Holm went 1-3 in his first start ever.
Another thing or should I say ONE thing that has impressed me is Bocock's eye. For a kid who hasn't played above A ball, he looks comfortable at the plate.
