The 2007 season has been a huge disaster as we sit 10 games under .500 and 11 games out of first. Piss poor management and piss poor performance are to blame for our shitty start. This season was supposed to be something special with Bonds chasing Aaron and the Giants getting the best pitcher on the market. Now it is only about Bonds' pursuit of Aaron and the fact the Giants are doing so bad takes away from it.
There are a lot of disappointments on this team but some are bigger than others. Our leadoff man finished the first half batting .225 with a .292 OBP. No team will ever win anything with your leadoff man doing that. Vizquel finished with a .238 BA and a .288 OBP. Feliz has a .234 BA and a not so surprising .270 OBP. Aurilia has a .251 BA and a .293 OBP. These are four key players for this team just hitting like shit and making this team awful. Barry Zito has been nothing but disappointment. 6-9 with an ERA close to 5!! The most paid pitcher has an ERA close to 5 for god's sake!! It's pathetic but not as pathetic as the man who is filling out the lineup cards. Bruce Bochy has just been one of the worst managers in MLB this season. I don't care how much these players make but if they are not performing, you cannot play them. Anyone who keeps putting a guy hitting .225 in the leadoff spot is just an awful baseball man. Especially when Randy Winn was kicking ass at leadoff while Roberts was out. Winn has a .293 BA and .342 OBP hitting there. Not hard to figure out Bochy. Bochy also isn't playing the best available players. Klesko is performing but isn't get as much playing time. Feliz is playing way too much. Messages need to be sent to these guys. If you aren't performing, you aren't playing. Sabean and the owners have a lot to do with this too. Signing Roberts and Aurilia were huge mistakes but hopefully he can make it for it by making good on some trades.
Biggest Disappointment
Has to be Bochy. I was so joyful when Alou left but now don't know which is worse. Very disappointed thus far.
Runner up-Barry Zito. 6-9, 4.90 ERA
Biggest Surprise
Matt Morris. Morris has a 3.55 ERA and a 7-5 record. He has been the slump buster of sorts and is doing a lot better than any of us thought especially after last season.
Runner up-Ryan Klesko. 293 BA
Team MVP
Besides the obvious answer of Bonds, I am going with Bengie Molina. He is hitting .281 and has been a RBI machine for this team with timely hits. He is hitting .378 with RISP and two outs and .321 with just RISP. Not only that, he is calling a great game behind the plate.
Runner up-Barry Bonds
Best Rookie
Tough one but I had to go with Fred Lewis. .280 BA and a .358 OBP not mention he has three homers and two of those are grand slams. He has 16 RBI in just 30 games played. Good defense and good speed.
Runner up-Tim Lincecum
Trade Bait
Matt Morris, Ray Durham, Steve Kline, Mark Sweeney and Omar Vizquel. I would say Feliz but nobdy wanted him in the offseason so why would they now? Aurilia might get some looks as Klesko could too.
