After taking a well-deserved day off, the Giants will open a three-game series against the Rockies on Friday with Matt Cain on the mound.
Cain already got a taste of the Rockies earlier this month, and it went down pretty smooth. Cain gave up one earned run on five hits in six innings to earn the win during a 15-2 smothering on May 13.
In fact, all of Cain's outings against the Rockies this season have went well, as he boasts an 0.69 ERA against them this season.
This weekend's series is the last chance to catch the Giants before they hit the road for a three-game series against the New York Mets, followed by stops in Philadelphia and Arizona.
Pitching matchup
SF: RHP Matt Cain (2-4, 3.30 ERA)
Cain was back in familiar form but the Giants lost his last start. He struck out nine and pitched six shutout innings against Oakland. His performance wasn't flawless, though, as he gave up a three-run home run in the seventh.
COL: RHP Jason Hirsh (2-4, 4.28 ERA)
Hirsh wasn't sharp in his last outing on Sunday, giving up four runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman in five innings. He battled through the Royals lineup, however, and gave the Rockies a chance to win the game. Hirsh was at his best in his last two innings, retiring six of the seven batters he faced. Hirsh faced San Francisco once this season, giving up three earned runs in seven innings for a no-decision.
Player to watch
Randy Winn went 2-for-3 against Hirsh with a double earlier this season, and he holds a 1.000 slugging percentage against the righty.
