I didn't think the hot streak would last all season, no.
Let's see how he it works out through the season.
Josh Barfield will cool off at some point as well, that's the way baseball is.

Players go through streaks like this, Gonzo will get his and so will Barfield. We're not even a month through the season, let's see what these 2 guys can do. If we can take anything away from how this team is playing right now, they were 9-13 at this point last season, which they could be right now if not for the rainout against the Giants during opening week.
through the misty clouds of no offense, the youngsters are looking pretty good, which at least gives me hope for the future.

Ok, that looked better when I copied it than when I posted it....let's try this again.

Well one thing is for sure......I think we can all agree that Gonzo has given us more to this point than Klesko would have, along with defense at 1st we haven't seen in years...
Gonzalez hasn't had an extra-base hit in over a week ... Klesko at least provides power, but a weaker glove, definitely.
klesko hasn't provided power in years......that's his problem
18 homeruns in 137 games isn't power? Padres need all the bats they can get (3 runs in the last 3 games = embarrassing).
Klesko had 19 doubles and 18 HR's last year.........now if he only made $4M those might be considered ok.......but they aren't for what he makes now, espeically when you factor in the defensive circus he brings with him...
Gonzalez has 7 doubles and we're not done with the first month of baseball....nobody thought he'd hit HR's right away, but even that might come around......he's been slumping for sure, but so has everyone on the team.....it's far from an isolated situation
In 1982 yes it would have been considered power......in this day and age, NO that's considered your SS or 2nd baseman, not your premier power hitter....Originally Posted by DirtyKash
compared to the rest of the padres lineup, it's power. Show me someone who's going to hit that many homeruns this year for the Padres. there's none. Could definitely use Klesko's bat in a combination with Gonzo's glove.Originally Posted by padrefanforever
Well I think when the season is over.......Greene, Piazza, and Cameron will all have more HR's than 18.........Greene while slumping is way ahead of any pace by any Padre last year..... Cameron just got here, and Piazza is Piazza......he wont hit more than 25 but I think he comes pretty close
Oh and add to that Barfield........it wouldn't surprise me at all to see this kid get red hot and just start mashing for power.....he never gets cheated on his swing.......it's one BIG swing.......
