unfortunately that poll doesn't take into account contract offers. Players vote on that under the premise of all things being equal.

I think all things are becoming far more equal than most think.......We just wont be at the upper eschelon for contracts ever......but I do think more and more guys are going to realize that making 10M in a great place is better than 13M in a crap hole or stressful place......No "SD discount" , just better business sense

Thats nice to see, but it could have a detrimental effect on us if KT, SA, and JM see it because they will just say to themselves, hey most of the players would like to be here, so why should we pay them?

I'm sure the above three mentioned know how to conduct business.

They might use something like that in the negotiations and have it motivate their starting bids, but somehow I doubt they'd ever say "Well, we're done here. We saw an article telling us that most of you want to play in San Diego so why should we up our ante?"

I'm sure they know how to conduct their business too, and I wasn't implying that it was as simplified as you so sarcastically put it "Well, we're done here. We saw an article telling us that most of you want to play in San Diego so why should we up our ante?", but if your drawing players to the most beautiful place on earth versus drawing them to the crappiest place on earth, the crappiest will need to pay more to equalize the draw.

I wouldnt even imply that they use it in negotiations like you did. I know first hand what this is like because I recruit physicians for hospitals across the country and believe me when I tell you that I have hospitals in the arm pit of America and others in very beautiful places in America and yes knowing this I know I have to pay them a little more to get them to take a job in the Arm pit, and that those that want too much to be in my prestine facilities I can easily pass on because I know someone else is right behind them pining to live and work there for probably a lot less.

So take your sarcasm somewhere else, because my point was that if 10% of all the players indicate that they want to play in SD, and the FO knows this, they might be just a bit more inclined to pass on the player who is expecting a little too much knowing there is another player right behind him that would choose SD for a little less, because it's a great place to be, and again I speak from very real experience.

Anyways, it sounds to me like you agree with that strategy...but criticize Moores/KT/Alderson for the notion of even contemplating it. Doesn't make sense to me.

That's happened to me before.

Just getting home from a long day on the ship (used to be in the Navy), read a post in response to me and let my frustrations carry over into my subsequent response.
