Not true. If we wiff on Brees we're not going into the season with Cleo Lemon as our QB. We may ask him to restructure.

is he a free agent? God dammit. Sign him Bengals!
Yea, all I've seen so far is that the Jets are interested.
He's being talked about as a 3rd down specialist only......... limiting his time on the field significantly........I guess........Originally Posted by MarinersFan87
1st..... The Chargers offered Brees a contract based on his current state. They wont up that offer until they see and hear what other teams are willing to pay a guy that may or may not be ready for the season. To just offer him a truck load at this point is flat stupid ! The Chargers will make a counter offer to Brees once the other offers come in, unless they are out of control, in which case he's gone.....simple as that....
Now from what I've heard the Ravens and a few other teams aren't happy that he's also got a tear in the rotator cuff, and they might pull out of that race, or at least back off........ the Dolfins are probably the main team involved right now, and quite frankly, that's a great fit......
Bagging on Rivers at this point isn't very wise either, that kid has skills, and could turn out to be better than Brees ever was. He could also flop, but that's highly unlikely considering the tools he will inherit. HE'S NOT RYAN LEAF !!! Get that clown out of your head Charger fans.....it's not the same situation at all.......So either way we're in good shape, and if we can somehow manage to sign Brees, we'll be in great shape. IMO
Dr. Andrews, the dude from Alabama who is the most respected guy in the business, said he'll be ready for TC IIRC. And Brees is an UFA so the Chargers have no control over him, and with the way they've handled the situtation I don't think he'll listen to them anymore.
Brees has already said he wants to play here........he has said this repeatedly and did again yesterday morning.......Brees has said that he "understands the business, and knows , that just like Hoffman, he'll have to entertain other offers in order to play the contract game...." Do people listen to any interviews by Brees ? He said he'd welcome a one year offer with incentives to prove he can still play.... Did you know that? Does anyone listen to San Diego local radio anymore or just the national media that has the ability to spin any topic into a whirlwind of shit at anytime, especially when it comes to the west coast teams ??? Just curious
It's business, and the Chargers "handled" this very well, and quite frankly the only way a team with any level of intelligence could ...... saying otherwise is crazy talk...... you can't just hand a quarterback coming off of major shoulder surgery and with a suspect future a truckload of money.....that's just stupid to even think like that, and its extremely bad business second.
By the way.........I like Brees and want him back, but if the Chargers go with Rivers, that's understandable too.........IMO........we're in a win win situation and everyone is acting like the sky is falling.......wtf is up with that ? At least we have a top draft pick, with some great skills, ready to step in next year........how many teams can say that if they were to lose their starter ? Not too many....
Brees can say what he wants on a radio show out there to save face, but he knows he got slapped in the face when the Chargers wouldn't give him an extension. Every report lately says they aren't even talking and Brees won't get an extension. He asked to be able to visit Miami the other day. He's seen the writing on the wall, I think AJ has made it clear they're moving on.
And Trevor Hoffman went to Cleveland to "take a look" how'd that work out ?
Nothing is set in stone.........and I don't see how he was "slapped in the face" he's got major damage to his throwing shoulder, a torn labrum as well as a torn rotator cuff......lol....he's hardly in a postion to be pissy about any offer he gets.......and he did get a long term offer. It wasn't a great offer, but why should it be, he's damaged goods from the Chargers perspective, and they have a "stud" ready to go.........
This is crazy talk......I like Brees too, and I want him to stay, but from a business stand point there was only ONE thing to do, and the Chargers made the correct call so far.
we can show you where Brees is saying he wants to stay in San DiegoOriginally Posted by MarinersFan87
can you show us anywhere, in any form of media, where he says otherwise?
I didn't think so, it's pure speculation on everyone's part based on what limited information they have on the situation.
but yeah, the "writing's on the wall"

another thing I find to be very humerous about this entire situation is this.
Before any of this contract fiasco started, anybody and everybody who isn't a Charger fan would constantly tell me how the Chargers will NEVER win a Superbowl with Drew Brees as their QB. They'd talk about how garbage he is, and how he's too short to play the position and has no arm at all.
Suddenly it looks as though we might lose him and these same people are telling me how stupid the Chargers are for letting such a great quarterback go.
