B. They break character and throw the bank at him and he sucks in the US.

If they were to land him, though, the Padres would have two Yasmani's on the team.

Scouts aren't too high on his potential success here, though and even the Padres are viewing him as just a reliever, so this isn't anything I'm excited about. Hopefully this isn't the only foreign import bid they win this year but I'm not holding my breath for the other one.

Meanwhile, Carlos Quentin is willing to wave his NTC for an AL team....but I don't know who'd take him. I'd be happy to just be gone with the contract.

I'm not against trading anybody for the right return, especially from a position of depth, but of these three I'd like to see them get max return for Cashner. I think with his injury concerns he's at his peak and he'd be the one we'd be selling high on. That's assuming other GMs aren't already scared off by his injuries.

I like that Matthew McConaughey is showing interest in big targets but I'll be more convinced if something happens more than just "showing interest". (Not that I'll ever blame a Padres GM for not spending a whole lot in free agency, but that's a separate discussion)

I guess that means the Kemp trade fell through, or the Padres are using Myers as leverage to shake down the Dodgers to kick in more $$.

It would be my luck for the Padres to finally pull the trigger on a big acquisition they've been rumored to get only for it to hit some kind of random snag a week later.

He apparently took his physical yesterday, which was one of the things they were waiting on, but I can't find anything beyond that.

Regarding Kemp they apparently have until tomorrow to finalize that. Everything I'm reading makes it sound like a foregone conclusion that it'll go through but the fact that it still isn't official bothers me.
