The Padres are also sending Rene Rivera to Tampa in this deal. I hope that isn't telling something about the Kemp deal, because if that still goes through we just traded both starting catchers.

But Tampa is also sending a catcher back so who knows.

Well do that already or move on and make another deal. I hate this uncertainty bullshit.

I seriously wish they wouldn't announce these things until they were official. I don't like hearing they made a move only to hear never mind a week later.

Apparently Kemp has arthritis in his hips, so this is going to result in one of two things.

Either the deal will fall through or it'll be finalized anyway and he'll just spend the majority of the season on the DL

Not from what every report on the internet says.

They plan on going through with that (pending their physicals, of course) independent of what happens with the Kemp deal.

In fact, based on what I'm reading, should the Kemp deal fall through I expect them to try and broker yet another deal, say Upton or someone.

In addition, if the Kemp deal crumbles, the Padres might have to rework a three-team trade with the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays agreed to Wednesday since their interest in catcher Ryan Hanigan -- one of the pieces in that trade -- presumably would be affected by whether or not Grandal remains a Padre.

Whether you believe that speculation or not, it is both a report and on the internet.

Eh, I wouldn't expect that to derail the trade. Hanigan wasn't exactly a centerpiece. They'd probably just rework it in some other way.

They'd also not be getting that catcher from LA that's otherwise coming over.

In the interim, San Diego agreed to an 11-player, three-team trade that will net them young slugger Wil Myers provided those physicals check out; although Padres people, aiming to revamp a limp lineup is said by several sources to want both Kemp and Myers, meaning the Myers deal doesn't affect the Kemp call.
