Padres designated 1B Jorge Cantu for assignment.
It shouldn't come as a big surprise. Since the arrival of top first base prospect Anthony Rizzo, the 29-year-old Cantu has seen very limited playing time. He hit just .194/.232/.285 in 57 games with San Diego.
Oddly enough, now the Padres look better on paper with him gone
