Per the new ESPN magazine, they did a story on Adrian Gonzalez if anyone has yet to check it out. It dives into Adrian's journey into joining his hometown team and what he has gone through.
He and his family have received death threats and kidnapping threats while his family was still living in Mexico. People were blaming him for the padres losing while he was slumping in 2007. Crazy. It also brought up former player Oscar Robles and how his father was kidnapped in Mexico.
It goes on talking about how Gonzalez will not ask to be dealt and plans to respect his current contract, despite the changes that have been made and are on going while the padres rebuild the last few seasons. I think he's simply resigned to the fact he's on a team going nowhere and fireworks could happen when his contract expires or is nearing. It's amazing because Kevin Towers pushed hard to acquire Gonzalez from Texas years ago (I bet Texas would love a mulligan on that deal) and now the padres are where they are, Hoffman signing with the brewers, off-season trade rumors involving Peavy, Hairston being dealt, and having a weak farm (ESPN's comment, not mine).
Do you guys think Gonzalez will be traded in the years to come or will the padres push to re-sign him longterm?
