They're doing a bit of both, I don't think there's even an argument here. They're getting rid of Peavy's salary for now and the future, while also looking for the best deal for the future. They're not going to settle for whatever deal to get rid of his salary, so it's not exactly a salary dump, but they're also doing this now to get rid of the salary he will command with the team in the future.
Which is where you keep getting lost. There's a huge difference! Peavy is being made available because of his salary and the Padres hopes of cutting the payroll in half to $40 million. Hence, the salary dump. Offer another explanation and I will be happy. So far, everyone keeps arguing but offering no better answer for it. A
Well, let me ask you this, let's say they don't find any deal better than what the Braves offered (one they determined isn't good enough) do you think they're going to then just settle for whatever becomes available that Jake will accept? Or do you think he remains in San Diego for 2009?

If, and from the looks of it its a pretty big if, no other team including the Braves offer a better deal then I think Peavy remains a Padre until the deadline of '09 where they will once again look to move Peavy's salary. This offseason is so young but it is my strong belief Peavy will be traded due to his salary because there is no other explanation. If Peavy is traded, salary is dumped and farm system is restored.

Again, wrong! We are barely in the offseason!! The Braves weren't that far off from a deal. Padres can be patient all they want. The Padres aren't being forced here. They want to cut the salary to $40 million. Peavy was made available because of his salary. That's why when he is traded, the Padres will be dumpin his salary. It so ****ing simple guys!!! The offseason is so young and things can change with a move here and there. Let's say the Padres trade Greene and get a catcher for the future in that trade. Then the Padres would have to look at the Braves offer in a different way. One move changes the market.
Then what is it we disagree on that matters?
We both seem to agree that salary is part of the motivation.
We both seem to agree that finishing dead last last year was part of the motivation.
We both seem to agree they're not going to trade him just to trade him. (IE if they don't find a good deal he remains in San Diego)
Now I'm confused.

Why couldn't you have saved us all time by just saying this in the first place? We have argued this time and time again and I have never changed my stance!! Peavy is being shopped because of his salary. His being traded would be a salary dump. Now what you want to take out of that is your problem but it doesn't change the facts.
I didn't say it in the first place because I misinterpreted your stance, something I thought I was pointing out in post #46 after reading your answer to my question.
As for what you want to label it as I don't give a shit, it's semantics.
We both agree on the bottom line.

You say semantics, I say facts. That's where we disagree I guess.
