So, that's not even close to what he said. He's being msart about where he goes.
I understand his point of view on the matter, I really do, but he's making it that much tougher for Towers to work out a deal (because he's not going to just give him away) and that much more likely that he'll still be pitching in San Diego next year.
You have to give up something to get a former Cy Young award winner, it's as simple as that.
And trading Escobar doesn't preclude the Braves from acquiring any other SS in the offseason.

So what if it makes it tougher? Peavy holds all the cards here with his no-trade clause. The Braves can still work out a deal without it being "peanuts". Peavy is right in what he is doing.
I'm not saying he can't make it tougher, I'm just pointing out the ramifications involved if he does.
And Yeah, they can still work out a deal without Escobar, but Hanson's name better be involved.

And Peavy may be "right" in what he's doing, but the Padres are equally right in responding with a no deal if he refuses to go if Yunel is in the deal an that prevents the Padres and Braves from coming up with an agreement.
Jake can play the no trade card he holds however he deems fit, I'm just saying that it's increasing the odds of him remaining in San Diego.

Of course the Padres are right to refuse a deal. That was never in question. Last I checked, Peavy never asked to be traded. He will do what's right by him.
And, getting back to what he thinks is "right by him", why does he feel the need to disallow a trade just because Escobar's in the deal?
Are the Braves incapable of acquiring another SS in the offseason?
Axelrod's reasoning of "If Team X trades three starting pitchers and a starting shortstop to get Jake Peavy, that lessens their chance of being a successful team." doesn't make much sense because that's not what the Padres are asking for.
Unless he was talking about overall (ie including the minor leaguers) but if that's the case, tough shit Axelrod. A team also lessens their chance of being a successful team if they trade a Cy Young award winner for anything less than equal value.

LOL I made those same points in my first post on the subject. I guess Peavy's thinking is they might not get someone as good as Escobar. Peavy has every right to want the best for his new team and more importantly himself. Its just like how I said Peavy probably wouldn't want to go if Jar Jar was being traded too. Doesn't help Peavy any on his new team
The Braves with Peavy and minus Escobar are a lot better than the Padres with Peavy, especially if the Braves pick up Furcal, Renteria, or Cabrera to replace Escobar.
I never denied that he has the right to make the decision, though, I'm just saying that it seems kind of silly to me to take the NTC that far.
Jar Jar, perhaps. The Braves staff is kind of depleted, but it seems silly to me for him to push it with Escobar, especially since he knows the Padres want to alleviate their SS issue making Yunel a big part of the would-be deal.
If he forces their hand and says he won't waive it if Yunel is a part of the deal he's almost begging Towers to push Wren into giving up Hanson, which will probably kill the talks.
But, as we've both agreed, it's his perogative.

If Peavy is so worried about the Braves having a SS, then why doesn't he take a pay cut so the Braves can aquire one as a free agent. Instead of playing games like this. The Padres should be able to get as much as they can for Peavy. I don't like it when players pull this kind of stuff. They can do it, but it just isn't cool.
That's stupid........why should Jake take a pay cut when he's already signed under market value.....wtf kind of thinking is that ?
Jake simply doesn't want to go from one mess to another......why should he......he said he'd waive to go to a contender......if the Braves have no SS, not to mention other holes, they are less likely to contend next year than the Padres in a soft NLWest........And San Diego is Jake's home......
Yeah he should take a pay cut.....
All well. I won't be but hurt if Jake's still in San Diego next year due to his actions, warranted or not.
