Petco Just Got Tougher

It is slightly more difficult to homer to Petco's right-field porch this season because a yellow "home run" line was raised some 2 feet, atop a screen that fronts the section. Before, a blow off the 2-foot screen was a homer; balls hit off the screen are now in play. "The umpires made a suggestion over the winter and we acquiesed," said manager Bud Black.

Just what the everyone wanted. I don't know how much this trouble ever caused because I have never seen this as a problem. Anyone know of any instances as to why the umpires had to complain?

I can't answer the question, didn't really know anything about the particulars of where the home run is on the porch.

There aren't many HR that land in the porch so it's not that bad.

If I read the question right......I heard a couple things on this.......hope this answers it.....

Last season there was an incident with a fan that caused a huge problem, and the umpires can't see the entire yellow line, because of the stupid quirky angles, to know if it was a HR or not......so by raising it up they hope to make the yellow line visible to either the umpre at 1st, or 2nd at all times, and to lessen the chance of fans becoming a factor.
