I thought I saw something in the UT saying Peavy doesn't need top dollar to re-sign or something to that effect.

Peavy wouldn't be getting top dollar under Pads' proposed deal.
Peavy isn't looking for top dollar.......neither is Axlerod
SignOnSanDiego.com > San Diego Padres -- Padres talk extension with Peavy as Cy awaits“To stay in San Diego, Jake's probably going to be willing to back off of Zambrano's numbers,” Axelrod said. “That's where we have a gap. Their parameters are a little different from ours right now. But that doesn't mean they can't overlap at some point.”
I actually would be happy for the Padres to keep Peavy around for the next several years. Too bad the same can't be said about some of you Padre fans if James Loney was to be sold to the Yankees tomorrow.
As a Padre fan I wouldn't be sad to see Loney go.........but as a baseball fan I think it would suck for the Dodgers unless what was coming back in return was overwhelmingly good........
Congrats to Peavy!!! He deserved it, awesome year!!!
