    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Blum has actually done better when he starts, he's proved that the last 2 seasons for the Padres. He took over for Khalil when he went down with a finger injury during the 2006 season and then when Marcus Giles started sucking it up last season. He's a good player and better than people give him credit for.

Most players are better when they get consistent playing time. Blum is a good utility guy and that's what people view him as. If they had their chance of Castillo or Blum to start second, its not even close.

Maybe people see him as a utility player, which is what the Padres viewed him at. But, I think if he's given an every day job, he's going to be a cheap option that would pay off BIG TIME.

Either........Lo > Blum in every aspect of the game......which is why LO is/was a successful starter, and Blum is nothing more than a bench player

But you know as well as I do that Blum has come up HUGE for the Padres the last 2 seasons.

I'm in agreement with Loretta, I would love to see him back in San Diego. He'd be a great person to compete with Antonelli and a great guy to learn from.

He bats .255/.312/.386 over a 162 game average. All the HGH in the world wouldn't get him to pay off big time.

Blum has never had more than 460 at bats in an entire season. You give him 600+, he'll be productive I have no doubt about that.

Well since you can't be sure of something like that, it's probably not a good idea to make that sort of statement.......especially since he's never done anything to suggest what you're saying is even close to accurate.

He's a .250-.260 hitter who gets on base at a .315ish click at best and doesn't hit for any power and very few extra base hits on top of that......If his Slg pct. was good you might have a case....but it's not......so you really can't even fall back on that.......

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

We're assuming either way, you're talking down on a guy who's never had a full season's worth of at bats. How do you know my statement wouldn't be accurate if he got a full time job with the Astros? If he got 600+ at bats, you don't think he'd be the least bit productive?

No actually only one of us is assuming......You're assuming he'll suddenly do something he's never done before......I think he'd be what he's always been...... .250 hitter with an OBP around .315 or so.......with zero power.......

But the numbers you throw out are based on how many at bats? 450? Yes, we know he's a .250 hitter with little to no power, but what I said was, give him 600+ at bats and I think he'll be productive. I didn't say he'd hit .300 with 20 HR's, I said he'd be productive.
