My opinion is what it is. When you respond is when it becomes an argument. Otherwise it is just an opinion. Umpires make mistakes and get graded and reviewed based on their performance. I am realistic and don't make up impossible solutions. They have already taken steps to better umpiring. Never said nothing needs to be done, nothing can be done. Umpires know their jobs are on the line. QuesTech has helped see who is doing a good job and who isn't.
Yet every pitcher gets squeezed every time Bonds* comes to the plate.... WOW QuesTech sure is working to solve the issues we're talking about here.
Good call.....
All QuesTech has done is show the general public how big of an issue there still is. Problem remains that nothing is being done to repair the core problem which is this breed of egomaniac, chip on the shoulder, get in your face and argue, change the outcome of a game umpire.
QuesTech is helping believe it or not. I have already posted an article where Bob Boone says it is and he knows more than everyone in this forum. Umpires get fired. What else do you want could you want? Oh wait, we already know
Home plate umpire calls a BS catcher's interference call to start off today's game, Furcal eventually scores.
It's 1-0 Dodgers right now.
But yeah, Umpires can't effect the game's score.

But they don't win or lose games and that was catcher's interference
And it's affect, not effect for future reference.
LMFAO at the spelling police......Yah HWood it was a terrible call.......it was clearly not interference, but then again we were only watching it in HD on a 55" Widescreen......so it wasn't very visible
The call became irrelevant because the Padres decided to blow up and give the game to LA anyways, but had they not allowed the Dodgers to score another run, and had the Padres offense not scored any (to create a final score of LA: 1 SD: 0) you're telling me that wouldn't have affected the W/L column?
And if it was catcher's interference you'd think Bowen and/or Furcal would've reacted....neither did.
(Freudian slip on "effect" vs "affect" I don't usually mix them two up)

I wasn't policing the spelling, just thought I would help. No big deal. And yes it was interference as the replay showed. The umpire was doing his job. Would I have called it? No and I don't think he should have either but rules are rules. As to your question, you are confusing this big time. The call could have been irrelevant if they got a double play on the next batter. That one call didn't get them a run.
But the inning would have been over before anyone scored had Furcal not been on base.
Sure, Young could've made the bad call irrelevant (we'll call it bad for the sake of argument here, regardless of whether or not it was), but Young did that anyways by giving up even more runs, making it not a 1 run game.
The bottom line is, had Furcal not been on base Furcal never would've scored and the Dodgers would not have taken a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning.
Had that 1 run been the only score the entire game it would've been on Angel Hernandez (assuming, of course, that it was a bad call)

No, it still would have been on Young for allowing the run to score. Young allowed the run, not the umpire. Young could have induced a double play with Pierre up. And let's not forget how the inning ended with Gonzo being thrown our at second with Nomar at third. It could have been a lot worse. Point is Young lost the game and allowed the run in the first, not the umpire.
But Young would not have had to induce a double play if not for the umpire.
Yes he could have prevented the run from scoring, but that burden should not have been placed on him to begin with.
It baffles me to no end how you can't comprehend the fact that Furcal can't score if he's not on base to begin with.
Yes Young failed to prevent him from advancing, but he wouldn't have been there to advance in the first place had it not been for the umpire's BS call*
* - again, calling it B.S. for the sake of argument. No need to tangent the debate to that.

I get what you are saying but not even Young would put that run on the umpire. Players are smarter than that. They are used to "bad" calls and know they have a responsibility out there. Young had every opportunity to make this a non issue and trust me it is a non issue and he failed. The run is on Young. I can't say it enough, umpires cannot win/lose ballgames especially the one last night with all the hypothetical situations. That play happened in the first damn inning!! You want to police umpires when it goes against your team. Dodgers fans could easily be asking for that interference if the umpire didn't call it. But all should know and ,most do know umpires don't win/lose games.
Well we'll find out now if the Umpires will be policing their own after last nights Padre game
Talk about a terribly called game all the way around the diamond, and even an umpire who shouldn't be working for a while after some of the personal shots he took.......
