Almost deleted? What gives you that impression?
I think the Padres will do good in 2007, but the offense has to come together.

Greene imo has been a bust thus far. I know he's excellent defensivly, but with his bat he had a fantastic rookie season and hasn't improved on it at all. Actually, he's declined. He hits for a small average and doesn't walk alot. Do you guys agree he's been mostly a bust? Compared to what he was hyped to be or compred to his rookie season? Thoughts?
I think it's too early to call Khalil a bust and he's far from one.
He displays power (for a SS) and he's a whiz with the glove. (That alone makes it hard to label him a bust)
He just needs to stay healthy.

Yeah i know, i never said he's a bust though. I said, thus far. But yeah i see what you're saying. He's having a great spring hopefully he carries it into the season. He's very young and i agree his potential is very high, still.... but i figured he'd have a "break out" season by now.
Btw, where do you see Greene hitting in the order?
Bud Black said Greene will probably bat 5th.

1. Sledge
2. M. Giles
3. B. Giles
4. Gonzalez
5. Greene
6. Cameron
7. Kouzmanoff
8. Bard
Is that accurate, you think?
SignOnSanDiego.com > San Diego Padres -- Team gets healthier as opener approachesThe Padres fielded a starting lineup last night that Black admitted could be close to the Opening Day alignment.
Marcus Giles hit in the leadoff slot followed by brother Brian. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez hit third followed by switch-hitting catcher Josh Bard and center fielder Mike Cameron. The bottom of the order, in order, was shortstop Khalil Greene, third baseman Russell Branyan, designated hitter Paul McAnulty and left fielder Terrmel Sledge.
Substitute Kevin Kouzmanoff for Branyan and move Sledge up to eighth by eliminating the DH and it could be close to the Opening Day lineup.
Black said there will be some juggling with the three through five slots.

1. Marcus Giles
2. Brian Giles
3. Adrian Gonzalez
4. Josh Bard
5. Mike Cameron
6. Khalil Greene (I was wrong, M. Giles not being bolded when I referenced this threw me off.)
7. Kevin Kouzmanoff
8. Termell Sledge
He says there'll probably be "juggling" with the 3-5 spots.

wow... Bard at 4th.... and idk about Marcus Giles being a lead-off hitter. I mean, i guess there really isn't any other better options but jeez, the guy barly hits over .250 and strikes out alot for a lead-off man.
I'm guessing one glaring weakness on this team is speed?
Marcus Giles has a career .361 OBP. That's 1 point higher than the career high .360 Dave Roberts posted last year.

I didn't realize he walked that much.
It's definetly a very respectable number to have, but to be a solid lead-off i think he needs to cut down his strikeouts. 213 in the past 2 seasons isn't gonna do it. Sorry.... it's late and i don't feel like looking it up, but how many lead-off man have over 100 Ks? I'm guessing not too many.
Eh, as long as he gets on base. I think that's the most important aspect of a lead off hitter. Start things off by getting on base.
So what if he Ks more often than your average lead off hitter on those occasions in which he does not get on base. Is a K really any worse than a ground out or a pop out to start off the game?
He walks a lot, so he's obviously looking at pitches, which is another good aspect of a lead off hitter. (And one that's usually overlooked.)
And the very first at bat of the game is really the only time the lead off hitter is guaranteed to be "leading off"

I don't think Greene is a bust, and believe me I've been hyper-critical of him......I think he's been disappointing with the injuries, and that's his biggest hurdle.....if he can somehow stay healthy, he's going to post very good offensive #'s while playing outstanding defense........so I'd shy away from the word "bust" and think that maybe there's a better descriptive word out there for him.......
HWood said it right with Giles.......it's not about BA, it's about OBP.......I think we're looking for someone to just get on base however they make that happen.....hitting for a high BA would be a bonus......if Giles can post a .360+OBP this year, the rest of the lineup should be very productive behind him.....
I'm actually getting pretty excited about this offense.....they are showing great pop ( yes it's just spring, but the same spring for all teams ), and the new kids are showing that at first glance they belong and have huge potential.....
Greene's main problem is low and away pitches. He needs to learn how to lay off those.

Does someone have Greene's numbers before he got injured last season. He had something like 15 HR's and upwards of 50-60 RBI's already.....
