Boras never lets his players take a discount and most of his pitchers never pan out on long term contracts. In fact I cannot think of a single one that was successful after signing a long term contract. Can you?

Last time Zito was in San Diego he gave up 3 runs in 5 IP while walking 4 & only 3Ks.......so why are you such a glass is half empty guy all the time....??

Yo OBBOLTS, he's not the only one that thinks this is a bad deal for Zito, this was written by Keith Law of ESPN.com.

"Sure, Barry Zito is a good fit in San Francisco's big, pitcher-friendly ballpark, and in the short term he pushes the Giants to fringe-contender status. But from the club's perspective, this is one of the worst contracts ever signed, for its length, for its annual salary and for the entire misguided notion that Zito is this good a pitcher."

Cain would've been in the rotation even if Schmidt was resigned, and is therefore an irrelevant factor in the equation.

You said they should've signed him for less than he signed to play for San Francisco and insisted that he would've accepted it had they only made the offer.

While this may be true it doesn't take away from the fact that the Giants made a semi improvement on their rotation by losing Schmidt and gaining Zito.

More innings and a better ERA is an improvement either way you slice it and with Cain only to improve makes our rotation stronger. Plus a healthy Morris and Lowry does the trick as well since they were both hurt last year.
