Just reported on 1090; he was my second choice behind Baker, butmy first choice at first.
I'm definitely satisifed with today's news.

Padres have a new skipper........Bud Black
Baker would have focked up Peavy's career, this is a good choice.
Congrats on Black. I would have wanted the Giants to hire him over Bochy but oh well.
Iwanted Baker simply because perhaps he was due for a championship, but Black certainly seemed the most ambitous of all the cnadidates, so I am happier with him now that I think about it.Originally Posted by DirtyKash

Plus Pads spelled it right.
There is a weird cycle going on with the Dodgers hiring ex-Giant staff members, and the Giants hiring ex-Padre coaches, and the Padres acquiring players, coaches, and front office members formerly associated with Los Angeles teams.
ty.... I was going to point that out and thought it in bad taste........lol yah right
It's funny how when you have a bad day, everything seems to go bad, even things as completely, totally insignificant as this.Originally Posted by love_that_reefer

Black has temperament, tools for winning debut with Padres
Dusty Baker never made sense for the San Diego Padres. Bud Black does.
...
But here's the reason Black, and not Baker, is a better fit for the Padres: If San Diego opted for Baker, it would have simply been a case of the Padres chasing their tails, because he brings the same managerial style as Bruce Bochy.
Each man manages a clubhouse extremely well. Their strength is in how much the players like playing for him. Neither man is particularly known as a tactical genius.
If the Padres had hired Baker, the obvious question would have been: Why did they allow Bochy to walk in the first place? The man was in the organization for 24 years, guided the Padres to back-to-back division titles and knows every dark corner of the NL West. As does Baker, the former San Francisco skipper -- which is where Bochy landed last month.
In Black, 49, the Padres bring aboard an intelligent and savvy baseball man with a future as wide open as Montana. Black could have had the Cleveland managerial job before Eric Wedge; he was invited to interview in Boston a few years ago but backed out for personal reasons; he interviewed in both Oakland and San Francisco this fall; and he's one of the most respected pitching coaches in the game.
