So who is this "power bat" in Left Field that we keep hearing about? If Lee is going to Houston, Soriano is probably going to Anaheim or Philly, Alou is close to a deal with the Mets, who is this guy going to be? The Padres have been SILENT in the FA market. You know what's scaring me right now PFF, there's was a Peavy\Ramirez rumor floating around a few weeks ago, could that come true? Is KT really that desperate?

It's not even December yet and we're already complaining about "being quiet" in the FA market?

Leo, the Front Office has given us ZERO indications that they're going to make this team better. When are we going to start filling the holes in the starting rotation, left field and 2nd base?

I don't expect the front office should give any indications of whatever. They just need to put together a team.

There wasn't much indication of shit last offseason, then they suddenly made one of the greatest trades in this team's history.

I just prefer to wait until we're actually more than a few weeks into the offseason before I start accusing the FO of not doing anything.

And accusing them of not doing anything because you don't hear any rumors is a bit misguided if you ask me.

No, what I said was, I hope the Padres FO won't be so desperate to make a Peavy for Manny trade.

You can't compare this offeason to last, the difference is, the Padres have a lot of freed up money to spend and they have yet to do so. Soriano is now off the table, Carlos Lee looks like he could be headed to Houston, there's a lot of talk that Zito could end up with the Mets, so you tell me who's left?

I think what worries people most is that the more we see the guys we had originally thought this FO was after sign..........the more we start to worry that they will break up this rotation by doing something stupid.....and trading Peavy....or CY or Hensley....

I don't care if you get a ManRam in return for Peavy....IMO it's still not worth it......keep this pitching core intact.....add to it.........and get some offense to protect their work.....

I know what you were saying. I was just pointing out how desperate the Cubs are.

The only point I was making in reference to last year is that lack of lame rumors and "chatter" from the front office doesn't mean they're sleeping on the job.

The problem, and I was worried this would happen, is that the Padres have all the money to spend...and not much to spend it on.

And with the lack of supply you see a lot of crazy over bidding, such as 8 years to Soriano...which essentially takes them off of our options list.

    Padres

I agree that 8 years was a little excessive, but look at the team that did it, one of the most desperate teams in MLB.

I'm hoping that the Padres are wanting to put their money on one guy, Barry Zito. You don't want to give him a HUGE deal but he'd be the one chip that would be a huge addition to this rotation. I think if you do that, you bring in Mark Loretta, re-sign Dave Roberts and I think you should be ok.

HWood....we have the money, and the players we needed were available...perfect fit players....Soriano is exactly what this team needed....but I'm very happy we didn't get involved with bidding on a 8 year deal....what a huge mess that is...

A trade for Wily Mo is still possible....that gives us our big LF bat.......then find a guy to plug 2nd base I guess......and let it ride.....not much more to do....
