"After deals with Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood were finally in the book Sunday, general manager Jim Hendry turned up the volume on the off-season, confirming the Cubs' interest in Alfonso Soriano."Can't really find anything about Lee. Mostly going after Schmidt and Soriano.Next up on Hendry's to-do list is making a strong run at the market's top free-agent prize -- outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Sources confirmed that Soriano was the centerpiece of discussions during the Cubs' organizational meetings last week in Mesa, Ariz."
Wow........the Cubs might actually be good if that happens.......lol
Trevor recieved 12 first place votes for Cy Young, (Webb had 15)
At least he was in high consideration.

runner up is a pretty nice compliment for Hoffy as a Closer.......good for Webb.....I'm surprise considering how much of the season he missed....
This is sick, I have just lost all of my respect for the CY Young, it is now a beauty contest, not an anything to do with what you do on the field, and this is the second time it has happened to Trevor. The first time was arguable, the winner won 20 games, I still think that Trevor should have won, but I can see the other side’s point of view. Not only did this year’s so-called winner only win 16 games, but Trevor broke the all time saves record. This is just disgusting, in a year that had blazae pitching at best, Trevor was the story and they still went with an under achiever, simply because he was a starter. This is not an award anymore for an accomplishment, but a crown given out by powers at be for whatever their stupid reasons are. Poor CY is probably turning over in his grave over this one.

I'm sorry John but Cy Young isn't the lifetime achievement award. Webb had a great year and many expected him to win the Cy Young. Carpenter had a terrible last month and oswalt wasn't as consistant as Webb was all year. Webb only gave up more than 5 ER once all year and you can't say that about too many starters. He had the innings, CG's, ERA and was one win off the leader. Hoffman should be very happy with a second place finish over guy like Carpenter and Oswalt.
I can't imagine how one would justify giving Hoffman the Cy young this year.
The only way I can see justifying him NOT being considered for it is if you believe in the concept that relievers, as a whole, should not be considered for the award.Originally Posted by OBBoltsFan

That being said, Webb deserved it.

Hey I'm all for HOffy winning everything, but if Webb played on a team with any sort of bullpen, he wins 20 this year......dude was lights out.....and he missed how much of the season and still won 16 ?
He didn't miss hardly any of the season. He was second in IP. You must be thinking of someone else.
Being considered, sure, but what would you argue in favor of him winning it? A 2.2 or whatever ERA is good, but it isn't anything spectacular from a reliever and certainly not more valuable than Webb's numbers this season. Hoffman deserved the Cy in '98, but he did not deserve to win it this year. I agree with his nomination, but not with any notion of him actually being the most valuable pitcher in the National League this year (being what the Cy Young award means to me).Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo
So you honestly think he deserved the award in '98 over Tom Glavine?
