According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres haven't ruled out dealing Brian Giles.
They hardly need the money. However, there might be a slight chance that the Padres would consider moving Giles and bringing in a younger replacement. Giles, who turns 36 in January, is owed $21 million for two years or $27 million for three, depending on whether his 2009 option is exercised. Under the terms of the deal, Giles had full no-trade protection last season. However, Giles he can now be shipped without his consent to 21 clubs. He still has no-trade protection for Boston, Baltimore, Detroit, Washington and four low revenue-clubs.
