Ken Rosenthal says Padres interested in Zito for 2007.

I don't forsee it happening, not with his newly acquired agent, but here's the article none-the-less.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5946798

Imagine a 2007 Padres' rotation featuring twin aces, right-hander Jake Peavy and left-hander Barry Zito.
The Padres can.The consensus around baseball is that Zito will land with either one of the New York teams or the Dodgers as a free agent.
The Padres, though, will try to lure the A's left-hander back to his hometown of San Diego, major-league sources tell FOXSports.com.

    ...

The Padres' problem in trying to land Zito is that his agent, Scott Boras, will frown upon the famed "San Diego discount," in which players take less money to play for the Padres.
Closer Trevor Hoffman and outfielder Brian Giles agreed to such deals to return to the Padres as free agents last off-season.
Boras, however, almost always seeks market value for his free-agent clients — and Zito is perhaps the most coveted starting pitcher in this year's class.

I know you are talking about me Pads so don't try the I wasn't even talking about you shit. If the Pads get him next season there will be no reason for you to stick your tongue as no one ever said that they couldn't in the offseason. The only thing people said was this season and guess who was right? Just about every team will be in the Zito sweepstakes. Whoever wins will pay out the ass and thats not the Pads way. Good luck in the offfseason

This would be better than him being a met or a yank.

exactly...I doubt he signs with them, but no one said anything about that...reef and I said he wouldn't be traded there and since you guys *****ed when we said "told you so", it would be awfully hypocritical for you to do the same...even though it wouldn't be exactly the same as no one said he wouldn't sign with SD

I actually got the impression pff was refering to prov, but I could be wrong.

Anyways, I highly doubt we get Zito, nor would I want them to pay Boras' asking price anyways.

Since we will have a high amount of payroll to mess around with next year, I say we try to make a good offer for him. Somewhere similar to Oswalts.

I say we make a fair offer to him.

I then say we (fans) don't feel too annoyed when he turns it down for the well-more-than-fair offer he'll get from either New York team or LA.

I'm just getting tired of the Front Office being outbid by other teams. I say give him a lucritive deal (4 years 51 million).

it doesn't matter who he's referring to as our contention was that Zito would never be traded to SD...and he wasn't...this has nothing to do with our statement of fact...I still don't think he'll sign with SD, but that's not the same as saying he won't be traded to SD so he'd be "sticking his tongue out" for no reason

As long as the desired FA is in it for the money the front office will ALWAYS be outbid by other teams...and they should be, because with the limited payroll they have to maintain due to the current system I don't want them putting that much money into one guy, no matter how good he is. (Look what that did to the Rangers.)

4 years/51 mil sounds fair for Zito, and we could afford that with the freed up $$$...problem is: Boras will demand much more than that, and both NY teams will ablige.

Besides that, we're better off spending the money at third base and/or an OF spot.

Actually I don't want Zito the boras whore.....he's lost all value to a team like the Padres unless he's willing to play for less than Boras will want, which of course he wont....so screw him.....moving on

Fact is we need to address 3rd base and our OF, before a pitcher.... Mulder for cheap would be something I could see this team looking at.....scary.....but oh well...

As for Zito....you clowns got your cudos you were right hats off to you, he wasn't traded here.....we already went over this.........and my comment was more as a joke than anything else you over sensitive ninnies.... pull your skirts down and toughen up a little........good god.... as if I would stick my tongue out at any of you when flinging crap is still my first choice....sigh!

    A'fackin men.

EDIT = After reading the dramatic responses to PFF's original response, I would like to nowstate clearly that this had no reference to nybody, so please don't imply it as so. I just think the whole "We're the Pads, dream on!" argument isn't positive nor productive for our ballclub.
