Padres Woody Williams is on the DL

Well if this isn't another wake up call for our front office to go get us that shutdown #2 starter to couple with Peavy, and stop trying to stick a late 30's bandaid on the situation, I sure don't know what is......I'm tired of these bandaids that break or fall off........Get me another guy that I can look forward to seeing on the schedule, and not another guy that I look at and think......wow he played in the 80's

wtf? where did this come from?

Williams, who was scheduled to start on Friday at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals, will be replaced in the rotation by Darrell May.

woody is 38.....exactly what did we think he was going to do.....it's not like we have the StL offense to dig him out of situations.......this was a bad deal from the start, and the wrong guy to call the solution to our rotation woes........he was a nice addtion maybe if you want to call him our #3.......but we still need a shut down #2 guy and we need him now.......

we already have a #2 in Adam Eaton, but if you don't agree with me there then I will say this. We are not going to be able to pull a "shut down #2 guy" out of our asses right now, so we have no choice but to hope for Adam Eaton to prove me right, then worry about the acquisition of another pitcher come trade deadline and/or offseason.

FWIW we wouldn't be any better off with David Wells right now.

I'll agree with you to this point........Eaton should have been our #2 by now in this rotation, and so far this year is living up to his potential finally..........but he's never been a #2, or showed that he could be a #2 for a full season before. I think that a trade is in order, and bigtime pitching roster move. I think we need to get another outstanding young arm to complement Peavy, and have Eaton as our #3 ( where IMO he'd thrive )....... and it should be done by the allstar break......I agree that Wells wouldn't be the difference, but I've never said otherwise.....he was an old stopgap also...... but I'd like to see us go after a guy Kazmir, not necessarily him, but someone like him........bring him in and groom him to be the countpart to Peavy, and let Eaton bring up the 3rd spot in a wicked young rotation........ We do have some guys that we could move to make something happen.......and as a "middle market team" now our roster salary should be in the mid $80's.......that leaves us some $$$ to go get a high quality guy now.....and not wait......the longer we wait the more that #5 spot in the rotation will be hurting us...... 1 W from the #5 spot since last July just plain sucks!!!

Well if this weekend wasn't a wake up call for our front office that we need at least one more solid arm, I sure don't know what is.........I still stand by my original opinion that we need a shut down #2 arm.....and just move everyone under Peavy down one slot, thus making either BLaw or Eaton our #3-4 or #4-5 arms and taking care of this two year problem.....

    #1 - Peavy
#2 - need to get another shut down arm
    #3 - Eaton
#4 - Need to get a solid guy
    #5 - BLaw

IMO that's the way it should be and what we need....... May & Redding are weak attempts to stick a bandaid over the very real issues our staff is facing.....
