while that may or may not be true it's still way too early to tell whether or not it's working.

To clarify this a bit more, i'd still like to see them acquire a "real" third baseman.

I'm simply stating that, should they not, it'd take more than a week's worth of games to convince me that Todd Walker at third is as big of a mistake as it looked like going into it.

pff, where are you getting these 4 errors from?

I just looked it up and Todd Walker only has 2 errors as a Padre....both the throwing errors from his first game at third.

edit: and to give you a clue as to how a week is far too small of a sample size to go off of, going into today's game Walker was batting .300 as a Padre. Low and behold one 0-3 game later he's now .260

Jerry Coleman, granted he's older than dirt, and may have misread........but hell he made another yesterday to open the floodgates in the 7th unless they gave that routine play a hit....if they did that just wrong, and still doesn't excuse him for missing the play.....

If you need more than a week to figure out whether a player is what you want at a spot, then you need evaluate during Spring Training which is a month +, and plenty of time....not during a pennant run ..... NOT DURING A PENNANT RUN !!!

This is a failure.....we're now out of first, and a direct cause of us losing at least 4 games is the pathetic defense, and lack of offense from our 3bag(s)

Yesterday's final score indicated zero errors for the Padres as a whole.

And I still maintain that Todd Walker is holding down third base pretty damn well.

Furthermore, I maintain that it is not him why they have been losing, nor would Wilson Betimit have made much of a difference in my humble opinion.

Have you seen the ERAs of pretty much the entire starting staff since the ASB?

But I suppose Todd Walker is the new Phil Nevin....well, Kevin Towers by proxy.

if Walker was hitting HR's and driving in runs like Nevin used too when he played 3rd......do you think his defense would be an issue ? That was kinda what was promised here......a little less D, and a lot more O.........instead we're getting the same kind of O, with a little less D

I don't think anyone promised Todd Walker would hit home runs.

offense doesn't neccesarily equate only to home runs.

And, back to the whole "what does a week tell you" concept, Walker was hitting .300 as a Padre before going 0-3 yesterday.

if he goes 2 for 4 today he's back up to .296 as a Padre.

    offense doesn't just mean HR's.........no way....really ???

lol......and if he's not going to hit for power, then he better hit for avg.....high avg....to make up for it.....the last thing we need is captain mediocre at 3rd base, playing mediocre defense, with mediocre speed....

i'd take mediocre defense with mediocre speed with medicore offense at third over Vinny's above average defense with crappy offense and zero speed, or Bellhorn's average defense with average speed with zero offense.

My mantra on the subject has been that it's not the best move they could've had made, but it's still and improvement over what we had.

...and I would have taken a trade at the deadline to fill the void that still exists.......even now if we p/u Boone.....who is by no means my choice ever....but he's going to give you solid play top to bottom, which is better than mediocre....not much......but better and for cheap
