Its not even that he's "slowing down" in terms of his fastball; he doesn't rely on his fastball. His changeup is become more hittable.

again, a two week slump isn't him "losing it"
you want to write off an entire half season where his only blown save was due mainly to a Khalil Greene throwing error because he blows 3 saves in 2 and a half weeks?
Furthermore he pitched well in the 9th inning against Colorado up until a poorly placed fastball (read: not changeup) that Yorvit took yard.
Again, get back to me in two or three weeks if this keeps up.

I love how idiotic you guys are being. So since Hoffman is close to a career record it means he's still good now? Give me a break.
Hoffman is an OK MLB closer, but by no stretch is he Top 5 this year. You cannot disagree with that, because it is blatantly obvious. Yet you still insist he is the game's best.
the guy had a 1.01 ERA going into the ASB, converting all but 1 of his save opportunities.
What did you want him to do? Post a 0.00 ERA, use the force to dissallow Khalil from making a throwing error, and post a 27 k/9?
Yes, he's struggled since, but he's clearly been one of the best this year up until the ASG and I see no reason why he can't get out of the current slide and back into form.
But yeah, Mariano pitches for the Yankees, so he's infallable

and, no, I don't think he's as great as he was in his prime, despite all that.

I'll take Mariano over Hoffman any day of the week, and its in SPITE of him being on the Yankees.

And many people would...I probably would...but that's despite the point.

I took the stab at Mariano after being called an idiot for insinuating that Trevor Hoffman might actually still be good by a Yankee fan, what do you expect?

I expect better service in the future, Leo.

The career record speaks for itself Dry. Yes, Trevor has been struggling since the ASB, but he's arguably one of the top closers in Major League history. A career record talks about what he's been able to do his entire career when you're trying to judge him after 1/2 of the year? As far as you saying he's not in the top 5 this year? Name who is...I'll spot you the first 2.Originally Posted by Dry1313

Hey General, if Trevor could throw his fastball in the low to mid 90's like Rivera, it would setup that nasty changeup nicely, but he doesn't have the speed on it anymore.Originally Posted by General
Answer me this question, if Rivera was putting up the same numbers in a Padre uniform, do you think he'd get anywhere near the attention and hype he gets now?

His ERA is still around 2.50...
Probably not, but then again, Rivera doesn't throw in the "low to mid 90s." He consistently hits 95-97 with his cutter and fastball, and I've seen him hit 99 this year.Originally Posted by FmrFresnan
