That means he has a contract until the end of this year. However, he will either be automatically assigned a contract based on service tim (0-3 years) or he will be forced to go to arbitration (unless released or not offered arby by his team) (3-6)
http://pdftohtml.spiritofanime.com/p...cAgreement.pdf
There is a copy of the service agreement, namely this part
(1) Eligibility. The issue of a Player's salary may be submitted
to final and binding arbitration by any Player or his Club, provided
the other party to the arbitration consents thereto. Any Club, or any
Player with a total of three or more years of Major League service,
however accumulated, but with less than six years of Major League
service, may submit the issue of the Player's salary to final and
binding arbitration without the consent of the other party, subject to
the provisions of paragraph (4) below.
In addition, a Player with at least two but less than three years of
Major League service shall be eligible for salary arbitration if: (a)
he has accumulated at least 86 days of service during the immedi-
ately preceding season; and (b) he ranks in the top seventeen percent
(17%) (rounded to the nearest whole number) in total service in the
class of Players who have at least two but less than three years of
Major League service, however accumulated, but with at least 86
days of service accumulated during the immediately preceding sea-
son. If two or more Players are tied in ranking, ties shall be broken
consecutively based on the number of days of service accumulated
in each of the immediately preceding seasons. If the Players remain
tied, the final tie breaker will be by lot.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.
That merely means that he's eligible for arby. His contract is up after 2006, but he will still be Brewers property, barring the Brewers declining arbitration.Originally Posted by OBBoltsFan

And FWIW on the Hall extension rumors, they were simply trying to buy out his years of arbitration and maybe his first FA year, depending on what they wanted. On a monetary level, it takes the risk out of it for the player and team (say, if a team projects a player to command 3m, 4m, and 5m in three years of arbitration, they may offer a 3 year/10 million dollar deal). In that case,
Player Advantages: More money sooner, guaranteed money if injured or if he performs poorly.
Team Advantages: Possibly less money owed over those three years, the player and team may not get into strained negotations and headdaches that could affect relationships, time could be spent more on other cases or analyzing

Point is, Bolt's entire reasoning for the Brewers trading Hall was that he was a FA and they would not resign him.
That was nullified.

OBB,
I wasn't online to respond to your douche bag comments, but here is evidence to support Gonzalez not being the power monster that you proclaim him to be. In 2480 minor league at bats, he has amassed a total of 69 home runs. Yeah, that's one homerun per 35 at bats. And that's against minor league pitchers. You can talk about progression and whatever you want, but he certainly hasn't proved himself to be anything. He hits .300 and he might hit you 15 homers, but nothing more. That doesn't merit him the top 10 status you want him to have. I'll name another SS better than Hall too that isn't Jeter or Tejada. All star MVP Michael Young. Batting champ, excellent defense. What more do you want? Slugging? He leads the league in doubles. Here's advice to you, go **** yourself. Your ridiculous claims that show your ignorance and immaturity put you with the likes of BaseballFantatic and Heykid on this board. You're just a damn 13 year old homer who is having his first period. Go take your estrogen to someone else.

Your argument is nullified by the fact that he's already hit more than that in just over half a season.Originally Posted by Raphictor

Again I say its a fluke. Progression in power just doesn't happen like that.Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo

I wouldn't say 15, but I'm not sure Gonzo can consistently pass 30 a year.

And, for the record, i'm not completely convinced he can surpass 30 regularly either. (yet)Originally Posted by General
But to suggest he can't do what he's already done in his first full season is going a bit far in the opposite direction.

But suggesting what he's doing nullifies everything he has done in the last 5 seasons is going a bit far in the opposite direction too. I'll take 5 years of stats over 1/2 a season.Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo

Maybe so, but 1/2 a year is nothing compared to 5 seasons. I don't really care enough about this thread to continue the arguing, but I had to let OBB know that he's insane.Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo
