According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Padres have made Adrian Beltre their No. 1 target as they seek to upgrade at third base.
The Mariners are planning to be buyers, not sellers, but if that changes, they'd be willing to talk about Beltre, who is owed about $4 million for the rest of 2006 and $36.5 million over the following three seasons. The Mariners would almost certainly have to pay a portion of his salary in order to deal him, and even then, they probably wouldn't get much in return.
