Hell yes......do you think these kids are ready for postseason play? Reg season maybe.......post season ? I don't know about you but I'd have felt much better having a Maddux here, or hell even Wells considering what's going on now....

I'm confident with Peavy, Chris Young, and Woody in the playoffs.
That is not to say that I don't wish we would've gotten Maddux.

I might be ok with Woody if this team scored runs regularly..... and yes I realize he's been damn good lately....I just have no confidence in him lasting and pitching in the postseason
But doesn't he have more EXP than Jake and Young since he was with St Louis of some time?Originally Posted by padrefanforever

So does Maddux.

Woody isn't Maddux
He's still been damn good and has had a good career, I don't see why he can't carry it into the playoffs.

That's fine.....I don't agree......I think this rotation is shabby at best, and being held together with bailing wire and spit......We don't know if and when Young will be back, or if he'll be ok when he is.........We don't know if Peavy can keep up what he's doing........We can only hope that Woody will last, and be effective........I sure hope you're right.....and we don't know squat to fall back on should either falter IMO.......I said I'd eat crow at the beginning of the season.....and I will if I'm wrong.....and I'll be happy if I am wrong....
I think our rotation is certainly playoff claibur. Peavy, Young, and Williams are a servicable starting 3, and Hensley makes a fine number 4. I see no reason why you'd believe that Young won;t be OK upon return, nor why you'd assume that Peavy and Williams are going to start sucking all of a sudden.Originally Posted by padrefanforever
I wouldn't worry about the pitching.
I'm sorry, but I just can't fathom why you think the pitching will suddenly be shabby at best in the playoffs, especially Woody who's been our best pitcher this year, all things considered.
Does it suddenly become a different game when the playoffs start?
Do you think Woody's going to age 10 years overnight on October 3rd?
I just can't fathom your logic here.
I'm not guaranteeing victory, of course, nor am I guaranteeing great outings by the pitchers...I wouldn't do that even if we had a starting three of Sandy Koufax, Cy Young, and Nolan Ryan.
But I don't see why we can't expect our SPs to have just as good of a chance at succeeding in the playoffs as we expect them to have in any other game.
You sing their praises for the regular season, but then you turn around and call them "shabby at best" for the postseason? I just can't buy into that logic.
But all I can say is "we'll see" I suppose.

Woody hasn't had success in the playoffs. I remember in the 2004 WS he got his **** knocked off. And if I remember correctly, didn't the Cards rip Peavy a new asshole last year? Not to say it would happen again but if the Pads win the West, they will have to face the Mets and their offense is more potent than the Cards last year.
Peavy got beat up last year due to having a broken rib......hardly a good frame of reference.....yeah his fault for getting it.....but a broken rib nonetheless
Actually it's Robert Fick's fault for getting it.
He's the one who broke Peavy's ribs bum rushing him with a bear hug when they were celebrating clinching the NL West.
