Point is ........At 3rd or the corner OF you either need to hit for power, and moderate avg., or hit for a high average, and moderate power.....but either way you need to play solid D, we don't need a GGer at 3rd, just solid D

See I disagree with the whole positional stereo-typing. If you have a SS, 2B, C and LF who all hit for power, then you don't need a power hitting 1B or a powerful OF. It all depends on your team makeup. If I have Tejada, Kent, Vicotr Martinez and Manny then I would play guys like JT Snow and Ichiro in my lineup. Comparing positions is just not right. I can't remember who it was (nobody from the Pads forum) but someone was actually comparing Mientkiewicz's OPS to Delgado's! I almost shit my pants with laughter!
I couldn't agree more.Originally Posted by love_that_reefer

But at first when he was hitting ~.300 and everyone cursed him for the lack of HRs I didn't have any issues.

I agree also.........problem is we don't have that either ....
Obviously you all seem to think that 3B is a definite need position. My team is in dire need of some pen and CF help.
Therefore, I have a few questions for you:
1) Would Josh Fields make you guys happy? (currently leading the IL in BA and OPS)
2) Who is tradeable for the Padres? (I'm thinking Scott Linebrink would look REALLY nice in a Sox uni)
3) Do you think the two teams could actually reach an agreement?

So no Padres fans have an opinion on Fields or what your team might give up for him?

I'll get back to you on this.
I'm not too keen on trading Linebrink for a minor leaguer, however.

It would take far more than a minor league prospect to get Linebrink away from this team.......he's the future closer for the Padres once Hoffman decides he's done all he can do....
How 'bout Leone & Stauffer for Fields.....Maybe Stauffer can become a bullpen guy for you
The Sox have plenty of "could become good pen guys", and the way Fields is hitting right now, I doubt he'd be traded for anything less than something that would definitely help the team immediately, like a Scott Linebrink.
Fields leads the IL in BA, SLG, OBP, OPS, and XBH, and while the Knights are a minor league affiliate, they're the White Sox AAA affiliate. If he had the ability to play CF, he'd probably be up right now. The problem is that the 4 positions he can play (1B, 3B, LF, and DH) are already well filled by the White Sox.

You're more likely to get a Cassidy kind of guy......
Towers just said on 1090 that they are looking at Leone closely to possible come up....they are also looking at other teams AAA clubs for a possible move
Obviously option #1 among that group would be Josh Fields. He's not going to be easy to obtain though, I can guarantee that.Originally Posted by padrefanforever

Well it will be interesting to see what they do...... there is almost zero reason to keep Leone if we make a trade for a 3rd baseman......Stauffer is moveable as well......I could see a number of guys being considered trade bait for a top notch 3rd base prospect......building a farm is great, but when you don't have what you need in your system, you pull from what you have to make the deal....in our case it's the catcher position......we are deep.....I expect to see Kotteras's name come up with Bowen's
Towers said Monday on 1090 that he's talking with the Nats about a possible deal....he eluded to the 3rd base position....this would either be Zimmerman or Harris....
I personally would love to see Zimmerman here.....I think this guy would solve our issues at the hotcorner for years....Thoughts ??
2nd.... Some "experts" keep saying that the Padres are in the hunt for Cabera, while not getting hopes up, does anyone think this is possible...IMO he's worth a few top prospects....providing we can sign him to at least a 4 year deal.... Thoughts ??
well, a poster on the UT forum who's opinion I really respect, especially when it comes to minor leaguers, just suggested we trade for Josh Fields, so i'm sold.

I doubt the Nats trade Zimmerman.
I'd go nuts if we traded for Cabrerra, about as much as I did when we traded for Kevin Brown.
