lol.......I don't think of it as desperation so much as been a long time coming.......once again, I've never said break up the team, but if you can get a guy in here this year to do what's needed, we do have some guys in our farm system that will could likely never see MLB action for the Padres......lets dangle and see........whats wrong with that ?

for instance, I wouldn't pull the trigger on a Zito deal this year unless it came with an understanding Barry would in turn sign a contract extention right afterwards.

Well you guys won't get Zito so stop that wishful thinking but you do need someone to help Peavy in this rotation. Peavy can't do it all and other teams and coaches know that's about all you got right now.

Hollywood I agree that you don't trade your tradable guys to get someone that is only here for a few months.....

I disagree with flat out saying we wont get Zito either....He wants out of Oakland, they aren't entertaining a contract with him, San Diego is his home town, and he's said he'd like to play for the Padres......all leads one to think it's possible.....whether it happens or not only time will tell, but to say it wont happen is just foolish

Reefer, you don't know, for an absolute fact, that the Padres WILL NOT get Barry Zito. If you do know that as a fact, please present your evidence. It is possible for 2 reasons....San Diego is his hometown and he has said more than once on the air that he would like to come here.

Oh, and remind your boy Matt Morris not to get his ass tossed out of the game after only 8 pitches.

Evidence-Zito has a better chance of winnig at Oakland who might not be so willing to trade if they are in a race.

Evidence-Zito has no say in where he goes. Even if he did he would probably go somewhere with a better chance of winning. I can name a lot more teams with a lot more to offer.

Do I know for an absolute fact? NO! But be realistic about this. You can get him in FA next year since you will have some money off the books and there are so many FA's pitchers of Zito's caliber on the market.

I do agree that it's very unlikely that Zito ends up in a Padre uniform this year.

However, unless you have a magic crystal ball, you can not say with any iota of certainty that we won't get him this year, or next
