Not sure whether this is good news or bad news.
Well, as good as they may not be, and despite Estes' decent performance yesterday (minus the 6th inning) I still think CHP and Woody are both > Estes

I honestly think it's 6 and 1 half dozen of the other..........same results no matter who you toss out there.........aging hasbeens....the lot of them
Trust me, having Shawn Testes on the DL is a good thing.

Well the best thing would be for us to lose.....Estes, Woody, CHP and any other scrubb we have forcing the Padres to make a solid move to get a real frontline arm in here............but as has been pointed out by a few, who would they get ?
again, acquiring baseball players is not like going to the local Wal MartOriginally Posted by padrefanforever
if Estes, Woody, and CHP all were on the DL you'd simply see Hensley, Stauffer, and Brian Sweeney in the rotation.
in fact, i'd hate to see that happen, because the one thing you might see is a desperation trade for Boomer, giving up too much for him.

I know........see the last line of my post.......
Why are you guys doggin' on Estes? Give the man his due props, with exception to 1 inning, he pitched better than I expected him to. I think he's going to be a very good pitcher for us this year.
It wasn't so much dogging Estes and making a point of our soso rotation........saying that if we lost them then the Padres would be forced to make a move instead of hoping beyond hope for the old guys to eek out one more quality season........ I'd prefer to keep them all healthy and have the Padre do this, but so far that's not happening
I just think it's too quick to toss him away after only 1 start, though it was a good one. He's not Brazelton, so that's something in his favor. He's going to be a productive pitcher for us this year, I have a lot of faith in him.
Chan Ho Park and Woody Williams have at least had some years of success in their past. Estes has had one good year, and that was back in 1997 I believe.
I'd take CHP and Woody over Estes.
That said, his sole start this year was good, so i'm not saying we should dump him or anything. Perhaps he can prove me wrong.

I'm just not understanding why you're so down on Estes? He's had 1 start and already people are down on him. Let's give Estes 1 or 2 more starts and then see where he is.
I think your confusing dogging Estes with us not being satisfied with a mediocre group of aging hasbeens........ Estes winning 13-14 as our #4 starter would be great........I doubt you'd ever hear anyone saying anything about him as the #4 starter........but as our #2..........yah right
Todd, you and I agree on a lot of things, but you're missing the point. I don't honestly think it matters whether he's #2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, he's an every day starter, regardless of what spot in the rotation. I know you and I have talked about Peavy and Young being 1,2 in the rotation and we agree on that, but I don't think it matters where Estes is in the rotation, as long as he's getting it done.
