As long as you draft or have someone draft for you, you won't get screwed. If auto'ed, it is possible.

Yes. Like I said, if you're there to pick for yourself or have someone else like Mission, pick for you. But if you leave it to the computer, you could get stuck with a much less talented player. Several teams have been burned in the top 5 because of this.. the previous owner of San Diego was one of them actually.
