Beer or tacos?
Understand what? That stats at the end of the day are vastly overrated. The whole point of having scouts is to look at the talent. That's why GM's don't put much emphasis on just stats. I repsected the idea but at the end of the day it doesn't tell much about a player. Sorry!
yeah, you're right, GMs don't put much emphasis on stats. They just hire people like Bill James so they can not listen to them.

Like I said at the end of the day its the scouting reports.
Have you ever seen a scouting report? I have, and most reports are filled with analysis of a players solo game talents COMBINED with stats. You can only get so much from watching one game. But putting a players splits up against visible weaknesses is what makes scouting so valuable. If a guy sees 3 pitches in every at bat and has a low OBP isn't it obvious to stay away from the plate and nibble, he'll chase anyway?
My dad was a scout for years and his best friend was a scout. My dad also is a KHS HOFer as a coach and his friend coach clooege baseball so yeah I know what I am talking about.
Scouts look at talent as the potential to put up numbers. The ends are the numbers.
Also, my dad can beat up your dad.
Probably, he's 61 now
