Pirates Pirates Trade Watch: 2012 Edition

    Link:
Sources: Pittsburgh Pirates begin trade talks about outfielders Carlos Quentin, Justin Upton - MLB News | FOX Sports on MSN

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place. Clearly, they intend to stay there.

Major-league sources told FOXSports.com the Pirates have had preliminary trade discussions regarding two power-hitting outfielders, San Diego’s Carlos Quentin and Arizona’s Justin Upton. Talent evaluators from those two clubs have scouted Pittsburgh’s minor-league affiliates in recent days, as the teams prepare preference lists of prospects they want in the potential deals.
If we can get a deal done without giving up any of the top prospects(Hanson, Tailon, Cole, Marte, Bell), then I'm all for either of them. Obviously, Justin Upton would be the first choice, but I don't know if the Diamondbacks would be intrested without one of the top 5 guys.

I just don't see the Dbacks trading their best player. They are still in contention in both the West and WC so giving up doesn't seem plausible. Quentin is up for grabs but a lot of teams will be bidding for him. I hope the Pirates don't overspend for him.

No. The Womack statue goes nowhere.

If the Padres want a statue, they can have Casey McGehee. Or Clint Barmes' bat(we're keeping the glove.)

Re: Pirates Trade Watch: 2012 Edition

So the Pirates trade their 7th inning guy on Monday for an unproven 24 year old outfielder(albeit a talented one.)

While the other teams in the race pick up Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino.

You sure we're not in last?

I like the Snider deal. It might not help a lot this year but I think it will in the long run. Pirates definitely need to make more moves.

I have no problem with the deal really, but it seems like a rebuilding move, as opposed to a win now move.

With Juan Cruz on the DL, Lincoln gone, and McDonald/Bedard unable to pitch 6 innings, we're now going with Chris Resop, Jared Hughes and Evan Meek in the 7th inning.

    Oh yeah it is...

Heyman says that Snider is it for the Bucs, bat wise. Now we're looking for bench help. (And we haven't been tied to any pitchers on the market since the Wandy deal was done.)

Pirates get Gaby Sanchez for Gorkys Hernandez and next year's 33rd draft pick. Way too much but maybe Sanchez will find his swing in Pitt.
