"The reported A.J. Burnett-to-Pittsburgh deal is nearing completion, CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman has learned. Barring something unforeseen, the trade will be completed within the next one to three days. From there, Burnett will need to pass a physical while Major League Baseball will need to approve the deal."

On the plus side, Daniel McCutchen's kid got a college fund from him, so that's one person who's happy about the trade.

And Eric Bedard is the Pirates ace, damn it!

Peter Gammons of MLB.com reports that the recovery period for A.J. Burnett (orbital fracture) "likely is an 8-10 week process."
Yikes. An eye specialist told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel that Burnett would probably be sidelined for 2-4 weeks, but Gammons obviously is viewing things much more ominously. At this point, though, it's all speculation. The Pirates are expected to provide a timetable for the right-hander following Friday's surgery.

Either way he is going to be behind the rest of the team but the Pirates might not need a 5th starter til late April.
