McLouth had an All Star year hitting .276/.356/.497 with 26 HRs and 94 RBI. Nate also played very well defensively in CF. I personally would not trade Nate for Cano after losing Bay's bat from the lineup. Pirates need his power and defense in CF. Plus he comes at a small price tag so there is no reason to trade him unless it is for something they couldn't refuse.A baseball executive with knowledge of the Pirates' plans told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the club would not trade Nate McLouth for Robinson Cano and would not move the outfielder at all unless it was for "a dramatic overpay."
Cano is younger than McLouth by a year, has the same career OPS while facing a higher percentage of lefties and tougher competition in the AL and is a lot more likely to last at second base than McLouth is in center field. The Pirates should make that trade every day of the week, but while the Yankees are believed to be interested in McLouth, there's nothing to say that they'd be willing to do such a deal.
